Zombie Land Saga movie trailer is gritty and absurd

About three years after the initial airing of the first season, Zombie Land Saga will have a film adaptation, starring actors from Saga Prefecture. This announcement was made during the Zombie Land Saga live event on October 17, 2021 in Japan. There is a trailer for the film on YouTube. However, little on the subject of the film is shown. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The trailer features the Hakuryu actors (Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor) and Kunio Murai (Tokyo ghoul, The Return of Godzilla), both of which are from Saga. “Zombie Naki Tatakai” or “Battles Without Zombies” is the title of the video. It is a reference to Battles without honor and humanity. This kind of parody video is similar to Yoshi Ikuzo Enka’s music video released by Capcom for Resident Evil Village earlier this year.

The two actors have a tense showdown, talking about revenge and what they have left. As the actors play the scene directly, they repeatedly use the word “Saga” as if it were a catch-all term. When Murai says, “I loved Saga too,” Hakuryu replies, “If you loved Saga, then why didn’t you shout Saga more? If you were serious then Saga would be more Saga. To that, Murai simply replies, “You don’t understand Saga.”
