Ryan Gosling to play Ken in Barbie movie – Film News | Film-News.co.uk

Ryan Gosling is expected to play Ken in the movie “Barbie”.

The 40-year-old actor is in talks to star with Margot Robbie, 31, in the iconic Mattel, Inc doll live-action movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach wrote the script for the Warner Bros. movie, with Gerwig attached to directing.

Robbie will produce the film through her production company LuckyChap alongside her husband, Tom Ackerley of LuckyChap.

Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films and David Heyman of Paddington will also produce.

Ryan had previously been offered the role over the summer, but turned it down due to a scheduling conflict.

However, due to a delay in filming, he is now free to play the role.

Margot had previously promised to give audiences “something totally different” than they would expect from the famous Mattel doll.

Margot said last year: “Something like Barbie where the PI, the name itself, people immediately get a feel for ‘Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what it is’, but our goal is is to be like ‘No matter what you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.’ “

Margot’s production partner Josey McNamara added that the acclaimed duo will help change viewers’ expectations of the project.

He explained, “Like Margot said, you think you know what the movie is with Margot as Barbie, but Greta and Noah knocked it down, and we can’t wait to get into that one. . “

The film centers on the eviction of Barbie from Barbie Land for failing to meet the expectations of its residents and Robbie is hoping he will put some “positivity in the world.”

She previously said: “I think this is a great opportunity to show positivity in the world and a change to be ambitious for the younger ones.”
