The first full trailer for the new Nicolas Cage movie Ghost Country Prisoners is here and it features a bold proclamation of the star herself. In the trailer, Cage is quoted as saying ghost land is “The craziest movie I’ve ever done.” Who, coming from someone with a resume as Cage, say something. But since it’s a movie about a criminal forced to wear a bomb suit and go to a desert to save the granddaughter of a crime boss from a group of mysterious nomadic ghost peopleyoue, it’s pretty wild.

Directed by Sion Sono (Show of love, cold fish, Tokyo Tribe), Ghost Country Prisoners will be released in theaters and on VOD on September 17. He co-stars with Bill Moseley and Sofia Boutella, and here is the trailer.

So the trailer pretty much says it all, but here is what you just looked at. The movie takes place in a place called Samurai Town, where Cage is a bank robber imprisoned after a job goes horribly wrong. However, when the granddaughter (Boutella) of the town’s warlord (Moseley) goes missing, the warlord offers the thief a deal. Don this explosive suit and head to the wasteland and collect it, otherwise. He does, of course, and what he finds is not at all what you’d expect.

Ghost Country Prisoners debuted this year Virtual Sundance Film Festival before being taken over by RLJE Films. We watched it and, frankly, we thought the savagery was a bit too much. The film never comes together and feels extremely disjointed. At least that was my opinion. You can read the full review here. But, as you can see from the trailer, many people who aren’t the stars of the movie enjoyed it a lot. Many reviewers from other sites praised this unique and good movie, I’d rather watch something that takes a huge risk like Ghost Country Prisoners another remake of a movie that didn’t start out well, or one franchise reboot prequel which never takes off. So even in that aspect, it’s pretty damn wild.

Again, the film hits theaters and VOD on September 17th.
