Weird Al’s First Movie Trailer Is Actually…Weird

A new trailer has been released for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. The film is said to present the true story of the complicated life and career of one of the best-selling comedians of all time.

In the new trailer for the film, we see a packed stadium crowd calling out Weird Al who is played by a thriving Daniel Radcliffe.

In the trailer, the actor takes a sip of whiskey before pulling out Yankovic’s signature accordion. During the show, the music for “Like a Surgeon”, a parody of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”, played on stage to the praise of fans.

If the trailer reminds you of a Funny or Die skit from 2010 with a similar premise, that’s because the director of that short is also that film’s writer and director, Eric Appel.

“I couldn’t be more excited for people to see it,” Radcliffe said in an interview with The New York Times about the film, “I made a plan the other day and Al approached me. after and was like, ‘Is the weirdest thing you’ve ever had to do? I was like, ‘That’s the top two, with the only other being Paul Dano riding me like a Jet Ski at the start of Swiss Army Man.’

Weird Al Yankovic is a songwriter and parody musician in his own right who has had an astounding career spanning 45 years. The songwriter has won 6 platinum records and 5 Grammys, and still holds concerts that sell out even to this day. Yankovic co-wrote this comedic biographical film about his life.

Since leaving the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe has had a career in a series of rather eccentric indies, such as Swiss Army, Horns and Guns Akimbo.

But Weird Al’s biopic might be the weirdest of them all.
