A short trailer for the long-awaited second Avatar movie has been released, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come when it’s released in December.

The trailer opens with a group of avatars leaping along rocks and the incredible familiar landscapes of the first film.

In addition to returning cast including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, Avatar: The Way Of Water will also see Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel and Edie Falco join the cast.

The clip reveals several scenes set in the ocean, with avatars flying through the waters on the back of the dragon like creatures, similar to those seen in the first film.

To further tease fans, the clip features only one line of dialogue, spoken by Jake Sully, who is voiced by 45-year-old Worthington.

“I know one thing. Wherever we go, this family is our fortress,” he says towards the end of the teaser.

Along with the trailer, Disney has confirmed that the film, directed by James Cameron and set more than a decade after the events of the first film, will begin to tell the story of the Sully family – Jake, Neytiri and their children .

It will follow the troubles they find themselves in, the lengths they go to protect themselves, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they ultimately endure.

Prior to its general release, the trailer debuted in theaters.
