Dakota Johnson in talks to star in Madame Web movie – Film News |

Dakota Johnson is in talks to star in Marvel’s ‘Madame Web’.

The 32-year-old actress is set to star in Sony’s adaptation of the Marvel comics on a Seer, according to reports from Deadline.

The film studio is said to have encountered a “number of top actors”, but is now targeting Johnson, who is considered the frontrunner for a role in the film.

Although the deal has yet to be confirmed, the ‘Fifty Shades’ star has reportedly been tapped for the lead role of Cassandra Webb in the film.

It was previously announced that the film would be directed by SJ Clarkson, with a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

Madame Web was the first superheroine to appear in the Marvel Universe, making her debut in 1980’s The Amazing Spider-Man #210, portrayed as an elderly woman with a chronic autoimmune disease that requires using a life support system that looks like a spider’s web.

A source told Deadline, “It’s possible the project could morph into something else. Due to her psychic sensory powers, she’s basically Sony’s version of Doctor Strange.”

The latest film in Sony’s Marvel series comes on the heels of Tom Holland’s hit ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which upon release in 2021 became one of the highest-grossing films of all time with revenues of over $1.7 billion worldwide.

Sony also had success with “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” last year and is set to release “Morbius” with “House of Gucci” star Jared Leto in April 2022.
